Sunset Downtown Library Rooftop Wedding {Cedar Rapids Wedding Photographer}

Kari and Ian’s wedding was so fun, so unique, so beautiful! Their choice of venue (the Cedar Rapids Downtown Public Library) was such a perfect place to some creative photos. And the ceremony on the rooftop at sunset was as good of light as a photographer could ask for! Loved the fact the groom was in his Marine Corp dress blues and that the bride looked like a stunning celebrity from the 20s. This couple’s big day was just beautiful from start to finish… which is why there are so many photos in this blog post! Enjoy!!

After nearly nine years in my studio at the Cherry Building, this chapter will be coming to a close at the end of March.

Studio spaces have been part of my photography journey for quite a while now. I photographed my first wedding in 2004 and started with a small studio setup in the basement of my home. In 2009 I moved into my first studio space in the Guaranty Bank Building, about 400 square feet. A few years later I upgraded to a slightly larger space in the same building. Then in 2017 I moved into what truly felt like my dream studio here in Suite 127 at the Cherry Building.

This space has held so many memories.
Newborns becoming toddlers.
Seniors becoming adults.
Families growing year after year.
Women stepping in front of my camera and seeing themselves in a whole new way.

While this chapter is ending a little sooner than I expected, Amanda Dee Photography is absolutely not going anywhere.

I will continue photographing weddings, families, seniors, headshots, and boudoir, just in new spaces and new ways. After more than 20 years behind the camera, I have learned that sometimes the unexpected changes end up opening the door to the next beautiful season.

To everyone who has stepped through these studio doors over the years, thank you for trusting me with your moments and memories. This space meant a lot to me, and it always will.

There is just something extra special about watching a family grow over the years. 🤍

I first photographed this sweet boy (and his big brother Cal) as Fresh 48 babies in the hospital… then newborn, six months, and now somehow — one whole year.

He’s the fourth baby in this crew, and just like his siblings, he needed a minute at the start of our session (honestly… relatable 😌). But once he warmed up? Full personality. Full joy. Full tiny human magic.

The first year always flies by, but getting to freeze these little in-between stages for families like theirs never stops meaning the world to me.

So grateful to keep telling their story, year after year. 🤍

Last fall at Celebration Farm’s outdoor amphitheater, these two said “I do” beneath the most epic stone arches in the Corridor… and we chased the light from warm afternoon glow to golden hour magic.

Limestone catching the warmth just right.
Architecture framing them like their own cathedral.

Celebration Farm will forever be one of my favorite Iowa City ceremony backdrops — not just because it’s stunning, but because it transforms all day long.
